Will the future be able to fend off Apophis—the destroyer?

Unless something or someone intervenes, a 320 meter-wide asteroid named Apophis (”the destroyer” in the Egyptian pantheon) will collide with Earth on April 13, 2036 with an explosive force roughly equivalent to 880 megatons. On April 13, it will most likely strike the Pacific Ocean approximately 1000 miles off the coast of California, sending a series of cavatating tsunamis bashing against the coast.
