ancient magic … the places in-between

From a reading of Carl McColman … “The Celts have long been a people who appreciate the mysyerious nature of “in-between” times and places, the space between where one thing ends and another begins. Samhain, the sacred ritual marking the end of summer, takes place between the end of summer and the onset of winter; its opposite, Beltane, takes place between the end of winter and the start of summer. Dusk and dawn, as the magical times between day and night, are seen as points of mystical power, as are holy wells (neither earth nor water), spirits (neither live nor dead), and myths (neither true nor false). It is in the liminal places where we can most easily access the wisdom of the spiritual world.”

I have to say that I have similar feelings about those liminal places. The edge of morning, a change of seasons, and good mythology all possess an almost touchable magic quality.

What about you?
