A 2002 study conducted by researchers at UC Berkeley’s School of Information Management and Systems revealed that the amount of information stored in print, film, magnetic or optical form in that one year alone would require some 500,000 new libraries the size of the U.S. Library of Congress to contain it. Another even more provocative way of conceptualizing the data is to understand it as equal to every word uttered by every human since the dawn of time.
